PROCESS OF WRITING AN ICON

    TECHNICAL PREPARATION

  • the board

  • the glue

  • the fabric

  • the “levkas” gesso

  • drawing the Icon

  • the application of the 24kt gold leaf ( when applied)

  • the painting and floats

  • the hot oil

  • The dry and raw pigments are solved with a mixture of egg yolk, water and vinegar.

  • Many layers of transparent media are applied over the image.

  • Drying time is about 2 weeks and the Icon is finalized with a home prepared hot oil.

  • Drying time for the oil is about 2 weeks.

  • Most of the Icons are size 9X12 inches. Diverse sizes available under command.

  • Some variations in antique and original wood pieces discovered.

Licia's icons are mostly Monastic style, original and don't follow all canonic rules.

Icons are very inspiring to create a meditative ambience and inner connection.
